GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA Review – Is This A ‘Proper’ MTL Vape?

geekvape mtl rda

There’s A Lot Of Airflow So Is The Ammit MTL RDA by Geekvape Really A Mouth To Lung Dripper?

The Geekvape Ammit MTL RDA is a tiny little single coil 22mm mouth to lung dripper that on paper looks to have far to much airflow to give a proper Mouth to Lung (MTL) vape but as this review shows looks can be deceiving.

The original sub ohm Ammit RTA had a mixed bag of reviews and feedback with lots of leaking issues whilst the recent updated Ammit 25mm version has once again split users opinions.

However early indications are this 22mm MTL RDA is proving extremely popular with its leak proof top to bottom airflow design and pleasing looks.

The key issue as I’ve already touched on is can the amount of airflow hitting the deck give a ‘proper MTL restricted vape?’

To find out lets take a closer look.

The GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA was sent to me direct from the company for the purpose of this review – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Key Features

This is a single coil 22mm RDA designed specifically for mouth to lung – MTL vapers.

It features a dual post deck with a decent depth juice well and the Geekvape famous 3D airflow system.

It’s top to bottom airflow which means its designed to be leak proof and as to if that stands up we shall see shortly.

ammit mtl rda deck

There’s 12 different airflow settings taking you to a very restricted draw right through to a very comfortable loose draw that is close to direct to lung – DTL – if you like a restricted hit.

The airflow control ring includes a Cyclops style which means you can open all or some of the holes and also a single ring that means you can fine tune the airflow with the corresponding hole.

It’s squonk compatible and comes with a squonk pin that feeds the juice through two holes punched at the bottom of the 510.

ammit rda squonk pin

Dripping is easy enough however the generous juice well means you can actually fill it with around 2mls and at low power that will last you a very long time indeed.

I received the stainless steel version and other colours are available including the very snazzy violet.

Design and Build Quality

It’s actually quite a smart looking uncluttered RDA with just the image of the mythical Ammit creature printed on one side.

The overall shape is very tapered and the top cap is domed and conical inside too which suggests this will be a real flavour machine – more on that soon.

You also receive x3 different 510 mouthpieces all in differing restrictions and one extremely long stainless steel version.

ammit mtl rda components

Build wise the Geekvape Ammit MTL RDA is pretty good with little or no shards or sharp bits and the machining is nice and smooth.

The top cap isn’t the thickest you’ll ever use and sitting on it or dropping it might see it become out of shape – so no rough handling!

The tolerance on the top cap is not as strong as you might like – especially fully juiced up – however even fully filled it does take a little effort to get it off to fill or drip.

How Does the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA Perform?

The build deck is simple enough even for a beginner with two cross head screws and you should have no bother at all fitting the supplied 0.7hm coils.

I found the cross head post screws a little small but then this is a dainty deck – and I was particularly impressed with the included coils.

ammit rda coiled

I found placing the coil dead centre to the 3D and bottom airflow and slightly raised gave me the best vape – though we’re talking fractions of mm so it really shouldn’t make too much of a difference.

The coils read out at between 0.56 and 0.6 ohms and I found an extremely comfortable loose MTL vape with the airflow fully open on the Cyclops setting at 17w.

I moved between 15w and 25w with the later getting a little warm – both the vape and the top cap – but 21w for me was bang on.

OK out of the box it’s set for dripping mode which as I’ve already stated given the depth of the juice well this acts perfectly well as a 2ml MTL tank.

I’ve used this RDA extensively in both dripper and squonk mode and to be honest I found either gave a superb loose MTL vape with the Cyclops airflow wide open which is my preferred style.

Closing it down on both the Cyclops and ring to the tiniest hole gives an almost impossibly tight draw which I found uncomfortable.

But with 12 different possible airflow settings and of course the three mouthpieces you will find a happy medium.

  • Great price
  • Nice design
  • Ton of airflow options
  • Easy to build on
  • Squonk compatible
  • Great flavour
  • Decent clouds
  • Choice of drip tips

  • Top cap not the strongest
  • Small fiddly post screws
  • Over squonking very easy!

Final Review Verdict

Those in the know are surprised at just how well this MTL RTA performs as a ‘proper mouth to lung’ vape given the sheer amount of airflow getting to the coil.

However the sheer choice of airflow control holes means you really can shut off so much air it really can give the tightest MTL vape right up to a much looser – not quite DTL vape.

I had a couple of issues with the squonk action where one squeeze flooded the deck – no leakage but it took a longish amount of time to suck the excess back into the tank which could be down to the tiny squonk holes in the pin.

I enjoyed using this more in out and out dripper mode and as I’ve already said it acts just like a 2ml tank given the generous juice well.

This is the first MTL RDA I’ve used and I have to say given I mouth to lung vape daily I’m extremely impressed with the Geekvape Ammit MTL RDA.

Wotofo Viper RTA Preview | Another Single-Coil RTA

Wotofo Viper RTA Intro

The Viper RTA is the newest tank atomizer from Wotofo and follows the recent release of the Serpent SMM, in the same atomizer category.

If, like me, you are pondering the merits of releasing a new RTA before most vapers have even had a chance to try out the older model, then the obvious question is “What really makes this RTA any different to its predecessor?”. Let’s unpack it a little further…

A Single Coil RTA for Novices

The Serpent SMM and the Viper RTA are both single coil RTAs. However, where the Serpent SMM features an innovative, dual post build deck that has been constructed to accommodate both forward and reverse facing coils, the Viper utilizes a standard two-post design for single coils with beefy Phillips head screws.

Single-coil vapers will appreciate the Wotofo Viper’s deck

The tank itself holds up to 3 mL of liquid at maximum capacity and has a useful locking mechanism that can be easily maneuvered to restrict juice flow when not in use, thereby minimizing the possibility of leaks. In addition to this, the bottom airflow control channels air from underneath the coils, directly into the build chamber for a more intense flavour-experience in general.

It’s nice to see single coils making a comeback. It will be interesting to see whether the Viper beats the SMM from Wotofo. Hopefully, we’ll find out soon enough.

Vaporesso Swag Kit Intro

Vaporesso hasn’t been just resting on the success on the Revenger, they’ve been hard at work. Today we look at a new single-18650 kit designed to be a portable fashion statement. Bearing a resemblance to the Revenger, but with a compact aesthetic, similar to that of a Pico or AL85.

The kit comes complete with the NRG SE, their latest tank that bears resemblance to the TFV8. It features a simple twist-open design and makes use of the new GT core coil system.

Got swag?

The Vaporesso Swag mod is a palmable single-cell device that can put out 80 W. It features 2 A fast charging, temperature control and smart modes made possible by the Omni 2.0 chip. It also implements a design similar to the Baby Alien or iStick Pico with a threaded battery cap on top.

Plastic injection molding is used to create a fresh and modern look while maintaining durability. Weighing in at only 99 g, this mod is going to appeal to lovers of the Revenger who want a more portable form factor. The Swag mod is currently available in silver, orange, blue and black.

The NRG SE tank is the latest atomizer from Vaporesso. They are boasting that it has the best flavor than any of their previous designs. It makes use of a new GT core system, so I would imagine that the flavor has been improved from their former devices. The NRG SE utilizes a top fill system with a twist open design to make refilling it a breeze.

What happens when you cross an iStick Pico with a Revenger? SWAG!

The tank holds 3.5 mL of juice, and the EU Mini version holds 2 mL for TPD compliance. It has a baby beast vibe going on if you ask me, but I’m curious to try out Vaporesso’s take on it. They have consistently been delivering solid performing products, so this shouldn’t be any exception.

It comes with a 0.4 Ohm GT2 coil, and the TPD-compliant version with the 0.5 Ohm GT CCell. The GT2 core is rated from 40-80 Watts while the GT CCell is suited for 20-35 Watts of power. There is also three other different coil heads available to suit the needs of just about everyone.

The new NRG SE tank is compatible with the same GT cores found the Revenger Kit.

Though the design of the NRG SE tank is simplistic, it promises big flavor. Vaporesso is calling it their “magic invention”. The jury is still out on that… Do you think the Swag kit is going to be like magic, or just another tank and mod combo? How do you feel about Vaporesso’s products?

With the name of this kit, I would think that Vaporesso is trying to market to the younger generation of vapers. If you’re over 25, you probably usethat word to describe the free stuff that you get at a vape convention. To this new generation, swag is all about style and finesse… This kit embodies both of those things. It looks great… and it might even fit in your skinny jeans.

Smoant Battlestar Review

Introduction – The Battlestar Mod by Smoant

The first time I saw any Smoant equipment was at Vaper Expo 2016 and I must say I was intrigued by what I saw, although much was pre-release.

The Smoant Battlestar is a dual 18650 temperature control mod, much in the style of the Wismec RX2/3 in its dual cell mode. Like the RX it is capable of 200W with good cells.

The mod is available in ten colours: Black, Yellow, White, Dark Blue, Red, Orange, Bronze Blue, Silver, Copper and Stainless Steel.

I’ve been sent the Yellow for review.Smoant Battlestar mod review

The box is quite striking with bright yellow images on a black background, the front showing images of the mod, company logo and name.Smoant Battlestar unboxing

The sides carry a barcode, regulatory marks, colour check boxes and the Battlestar name.

The back shows a description of some of the functions & features, an authenticity scratch panel and more regulatory marks.

Inside the box

Venturing inside the first things we see are:

  • QC certificate
  • User manual and prompt card.

Beneath these we find:

  • Battlestar mod
  • Sturdy feeling USB cable.

Unusually we also get a small box containing replacement magnets for the battery cover.

Design and Build Quality

The Battlestar is a nice-looking mod in the style of the RX2/3, constructed from powder coated alloy.

It’s relatively petite for a dual cell device, standing only 83mm high, 40mm wide and 35mm deep. It has a pleasing rounded five-sided shape, fitting nicely in the hand.Smoant Battlestar mod in hand

Up top we have a sprung stainless steel 510 connector with air slots and to the sides we have vent slots with recesses that look as if they should have some sort of grip material in them.Smoant Battlestar top of mod

On the front, we have the now familiar fire button, display, up/down and micro USB quartet.

The USB port supports charging, pass through use and firmware updating.Smoant Battlestar OLED Screen

To the rear, we have the black battery cover with more ventilation holes.

It pulls free, held in place by four strong magnets that provide a very secure grip.Smoant Battlestar battery case

The battery tray holds the cells snugly with no rattling, it’s clearly labelled for polarity and has well sprung contacts at the positive terminals.

On the base, we have another set of ventilation holes, Smoant logo and regulatory marks.Smoant Battlestar mod base

How Does The Smoant Battlestar Perform?

Fitting cells to the Battlestar was a breeze, the contacts are firm but not too hard.

The battery cover doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall off accidentally, I found it easier to rock the cover in one direction rather than trying to pull it clear in one go.Smoant Battlestar box mod

In charging mode, we get a bold charging indicator with flashing blocks to show progress.

The USB connector feels to be of good quality, holding the cable snugly.

During charging the Battlestar got very slightly warm but not to any great level.Smoant Battlestar vape mod

  • Pressing the fire button five times turns the device on, and from there things look very familiar.
  • A Smoant animated splash screen and we’re into the variable power mode.
  • Power is adjustable, using the up/down buttons, from 1W to 200W in 0.1W increments from 10 to 100W, then in 1W increments up to 200.
  • Pressing the up/down buttons at the same time flips the display.
  • Three presses take you into the mode screen, allowing you to scroll though variable power, Ni200, Ti, SS316 and Ni80 modes as well as three TCR settings.
  • Pressing and holding the fire and up buttons reverses the display into black on white
  • While pressing fire and both up/down at the same time locks the power/temperature setting.
  • In temperature control mode holding fire and up switches the display to the upper power level, releasing the fire button then permits this to be changed.Smoant Battlestar OLED screen

The mod comes with reverse polarity, over-time, short/low resistance and overheating protection.Smoant Battlestar OLED

Having used the Smoant Battlestar on and off for a few weeks I can honestly say it’s been a pleasure to use.

It’s comfortable to hold either as thumb or finger fire, easy to operate and functions flawlessly.

Temperature control seemed to be spot on, not hunting at all. The device didn’t heat up noticeably during use.Smoant Battlestar review

My only bugbears are, as with several other mods using powder coatings, the paint finish isn’t particularly tough and after a few weeks in and out of my pocket it’s picked up some scratches.Smoant Battlestar paint chip

Nothing a wrap or sleeve wouldn’t fix but there are better coatings out there that maybe Smoant need to consider.

And again, as with some other mods of this style the fire button is proud of the case which can lead to accidental firing in the pocket, not dangerous but annoying when you ruin a wick or coil.

Final Review Verdict

This is the first Smoant device I’ve seen up close and I must say I’m impressed.

Barring a couple of very minor issues the Battlestar is great, easy to use and has a good range of features.

Yes, it does bear a similarity to the RX2/3 but it has tweaked the look slightly and is no worse for it.

I’d thoroughly recommend the Battlestar to new or seasoned vapers looking for flexibility and the additional life or power of a dual setup.

Nice work Smoant, this is one I would replace if I lost it.
